More often then not when thrifting, attendingĀ clothing swaps I come across an item of clothing that I have owned in the past. Case in point: this past Saturday while digging through bins in Queens I came across so many items of clothing I had previously owned I had to ask myself when the last time I donated clothes to Housing works was. Then I realized that when the clothes are from major retailers such as The GAPĀ its to be expected that you would see some of these items over and over again.
Recently though, I had a real blast from the past when thrifting in Williamsburg for warm vintage sweaters. I came across this:
This might just look like some ugly old black sweater with crocheted flowers – but it is actually a sweater that I wore almost everyday at the age of 8 or 9 years old. I was so happy to see this sweater (which is probably still in a bag in my parents apartment somewhere) that I almost bought it. I opted instead to take a cell phone picture and to tell the first sales person that walked by that I had this sweater when I was little.
This is a big city that changes often to find something in a different borough then I even grew up in gave me just the right amount of happy nostalgia.
