Hester Street Flea Market

by thriftyfashionista on June 29, 2010

At the current moment I am taking a little break from the flea market circuit to recharge and restock but last week I had the pleasure of participating at the Hester Street Flea Market located in the lower east side. It was a beautiful day and it was a nice change to be outside under a tent. I didn’t bring as much with me as I would have liked but I did learn a lot about participating at an outdoor market and how to make some things a little easier on myself. Megan my faithful assistant/fit model helped me lug things on the J train and set up at an hour in the morning that might be normal for some people, but is certainly ungodly for me.

Here is me at my booth. I was pretty pleased with my outfit this day. In fact i am obsessed with that skirt and wore it a few days later to a clothing swap (more on that later). I got it a Buffalo exchange because it incorporated all my favorite things : Purple, ruffles, and flowers. Now all those things mixed together could be a recipe for disaster, but in this case I think it all works. I have on my Candies wood clogs, a white forever 21 tank , a little boys gap denim jacket, and my new white owl necklace from eBay. A reader requested that I post about my owl collection so I guess it’s time I organize my jewelry and find all my pieces.

I love pictures of clothing racks full of vintage close up. You never know what kinds of treasures are on them! I didn’t bring that big of a selection to Hester street for a couple of reasons. #1 – I had to carry everything on the train. So while it may have seemed like a small amount of stuff while set up in the tent, it was not a small amount of stuff to carry on my back. I only sold a couple of the pieces shown here – The rest of the things are going to go up in my Etsy store, or are up there already.
If you are in the NYC area e-mail me to get on my mailing list – I am still having a few stoop sales before I head back to the Artists and Fleas market!
